Celebrating Excellence with Road Safety Awards

Every year, Road Safety Education Limited and our major partners recognise the contribution of individuals, schools, facilitators, Police members and community groups with their Supporting Excellence in Road Safety Awards. This year, we took advantage of the bright yellow spotlight and shone it on some hard-working supporters. We thank the nominees and awardees for sharing their time, expertise, energy and enthusiasm with us in an effort to make our roads a safer place for all.

BOC Ryda Champions

Awarded to individuals (traditionally Rotarians) who have gone above and beyond in supporting road safety education in their regions.

Supporting Excellence in Road Safety Awards – 2025

BOC RYDA Champion – Bob Willliams (Rotary Club of Nunawadding, Vic, Australia)

A true champion of road safety, Bob has volunteered for a number of years and this year coordinated over 100 Rotary volunteers across 18 Ryda workshops, including supporting other regional areas. His passion also drives financial support through his work with the Bass Coast Cycle Challenge, which has raised thousands of dollars to subsidise schools in South Gippsland and Bass Coast.

Logan Wilson – Rotary Club of Levin (NZ)

For over a decade, Logan has supported Ryda every year, even travelling beyond his district to help. From rallying local leaders to baking treats for our team, his kindness and commitment are unmatched.

Toyota Community Award

Awarded to groups (often a Rotary organising committee or council group) that bring their community together to make Ryda available in their region.

George Blackwell & the Orange Ryda Organising Committee (Orange, NSW, Australia)

Led by George, this team works tirelessly to bring Ryda workshops to life in Orange. Their strong community ties, weekly meetings, and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring.

Lynette & Lionel Wilson and the Rotary Club of Timaru (Timaru, NZ)

This dynamic duo and their club go above and beyond – funding, volunteering, advocating, and even sheltering students from the elements! Their support has been vital in making Ryda a success in their region.

Bridgestone School Award

Awarded to schools who have shown ongoing commitment to participating in Ryda, not just through the workshops but with curriculum work, pre/post evaluation, road safety policies and other initiatives that re-visit the Ryda learning and help create and all of school road safety culture.

St Scholastica’s College (Glebe, NSW, Australia)

A valued Ryda participant since 2011, St Scholastica’s continues to prioritise road safety education as part of their student wellbeing program.

Kaipara College (Helensville, NZ)

Kaipara College consistently engages with Ryda each year, reinforcing safety messages and creating space for important conversations about risks on rural roads.

Facilitator Award (sponsored in NZ by NZ Steel)

Awarded to exceptional facilitators who embrace training and upskilling throughout their tenure with RSE and receive great feedback from students and teachers alike.

Luke Ramm (Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia)

Luke’s passion for road safety comes from personal experience, and he’s gone far beyond his role as a Ryda facilitator. From rallying Rotary, Council and local schools to involving the Mayor, Luke has been a driving force in bringing Ryda to Port Macquarie and building a strong community around it.

Albert “Albie” Lionheart – Hamilton, NZ

Albie is the ultimate team player — stepping in at a moment’s notice, helping train others, managing sessions, and ensuring Ryda runs smoothly no matter what. His dedication and positive attitude have made him an invaluable part of the program across the Central North Island.

Boral Police Award

Awarded to exceptional Police Officers who bring passion and dedication to facilitating the Road Choices sessions and promote the learning to their local schools.

Senior Constable Lee-Anne Nelson (Portland, Vic, Australia)

Lee-Anne has gone above and beyond to bring the Ryda program to her regional community, coordinating schools, venues, Rotary support, funding, and even organising an evening Drive Coach Session for parents. She facilitates the Road Choices session and is looking to bring in other officers in to support future workshops, making a powerful impact on local youth.

A special mention also to the Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Alliance Hero award recipient, Mila Smith de Zeeuw.
